What does a Feng Shui Consultant do?

A qualified Feng Shui Consultant should perform the following tasks:
* Determine the age of the building and the date of occupation.
* Assess the direction of the facing of the building and the main door entrance with a compass or Lo Pan.
* Determine if the Buildings and its occupants belong to the East or West Group. This determines the favorable and unfavorable directions of each and how they relate to each other.
* Inspect the grounds surrounding the building to see if there are natural and man-made forms that support the structure and its inhabitants.
* Create and analyze a personalized Flying Star Chart to determine the energies of the building.
* Apply the Flying Star Chart to the interior  and exterior to determine the Chi of the building in relationship to the entrance, open spaces, living room, dining room, kitchen, bedrooms, baths, storerooms, offices, etc.
* Once the energies (CHI) are known, then positive Chi can be enhanced (increasing prosperity, improving health, & enhancing relationships) and negative Chi can be neutralized. The consultant will come up with a plan and make suggestions for the best placement of furniture and decor.
* Advises on colors and special items that may be required.
* Advises on external enhancements to increase the Sheng (Positive) Chi of the building and its inhabitants.

What is Chi?

"Chi" is the "underlying and unifying essence of all things, both physical and metaphysical." Chi it the nourishing force that creates and permeates everything in the universe. It has been called "the cosmic breath" or "the stuff of life." Although we cannot see chi, just as we cannot see wind, we can feel and see the effects of chi, much like we can see and feel the effects of the wind.

Every Culture has its own name for Chi:

Ki -Japanese, Prana -Hindus, Ankh -Egyptians, Ruah -Hebrews, Orenda -Iroquois, Holy Spirit -Christians

In Feng Shui we pay special attention to the kinds of chi (Sha chi = bad chi, Sheng chi = good chi) that are in our environments. As well as paying attention to how the chi flows through the structures.

Can I deflect Sha Chi with mirrors?

Mirrors are being touted as the "feng shui cure all." However, too much of a good thing is not always beneficial.

Look at it this way, Mirrors reflect light, not Chi.

Feng Shui is intended to create balance and harmony with in your environment. It does not make sense to attempt to "send back" Sha (negative) Chi. It is best to transmute the negative into positive.

Mirrors are best used to create a lighter and brighter environment or to enlarge the look of a space aesthetically and should be used with discretion.

What does Yin and Yang have to do with Feng Shui?

In Feng Shui, yin and yang is very important. Fundamentally, yin is passive (female) and yang is active (male). It is better to have a bedroom more yin than yang. This provides a restful, nurturing, stable environment. An office environment is best to be more yang than yin. A yang environment is stimulating and active, promoting decision making and action.

Is Feng Shui a Religion?

Feng Shui is Not a religion. While some of the principles of Feng Shui are related to the Tao, this is a philosophical view not a religious one. Feng Shui is the understanding of the laws of nature and working with them to bring about a balance to our lives. Through living with and enhancing rather than opposing the laws of nature, we can become more harmonious and balanced in our lives and with in our World.
